1922 begann die Aufforstung. Nachdem man in den westlichen Wäldern gelernt hatte, dass reine Nadelwälder nicht gut sind, wurde nach dem Vorbild des Formerumer Bos teils Nadelwald, teils Mischwald angelegt.

After learning that pure pine woods were not suitable, the Hoornse Woods was planted partially with pine and partially mixed, just like the Formerumer Woods. No other woods on Terschelling lies so close to the sea.
