Sabbat

Und er sprach zu ihnen: Der Sabbat ist um des Menschen willen gemacht, und nicht der Mensch um des Sabbat willen.

And he said unto them, The sabbath was made for man, and not man for the sabbath:

Oder habt ihr nicht gelesen im Gesetz, wie die Priester am Sabbat im Tempel den Sabbat brechen und sind doch ohne Schuld?

Or have ye not read in the law, how that on the sabbath days the priests in the temple profane the sabbath, and are blameless?

Es ist euer großer Sabbat, daß ihr eure Leiber kasteit. Am neunten Tage des Monats zu Abend sollt ihr diesen Sabbat halten, von Abend bis wieder zu Abend.

It shall be unto you a sabbath of rest, and ye shall afflict your souls: in the ninth day of the month at even, from even unto even, shall ye celebrate your sabbath.

So ein Mensch die Beschneidung annimmt am Sabbat, auf daß nicht das Gesetz Mose's gebrochen werde, zürnet ihr denn über mich, daß ich den ganzen Menschen habe am Sabbat gesund gemacht?

If a man on the sabbath day receive circumcision, that the law of Moses should not be broken; are ye angry at me, because I have made a man every whit whole on the sabbath day?

Die Juden aber, dieweil es der Rüsttag war, daß nicht die Leichname am Kreuze blieben den Sabbat über (denn desselben Sabbats Tag war groß), baten sie Pilatus, daß ihre Beine gebrochen und sie abgenommen würden.

The Jews therefore, because it was the preparation, that the bodies should not remain upon the cross on the sabbath day, (for that sabbath day was an high day,) besought Pilate that their legs might be broken, and that they might be taken away.
