Sehr geehrte Damen und Herren! Ich teile die Bedenken der Europäer hinsichtlich der aktuellen Entwicklungen.

Ladies and gentlemen, I share the concern of the European people about current developments.

Glaubt jemand ernsthaft, dass die Empfehlung, das Assoziationsabkommen mit Israel auszusetzen, für einen Beitrag der Europäer bei der Suche nach Frieden förderlich sein wird?

Do we seriously believe that recommending the suspension of the Association Agreement with Israel will help Europe contribute to an effective quest for peace?

Ich möchte in diesem Zusammenhang auf eine Studie hinweisen, die vor mehreren Jahren einmal von der Kommission gemacht wurde über die unterschiedliche Einstellung der Europäer und der Asiaten etwa zur belebten und unbelebten Natur.

In the same context I should like to refer to a study that was compiled by the Commission a few years ago about the different attitudes of Europeans and Asians to things like the living world and the inanimate world.

Ich habe den Eindruck, dass die Mehrzahl der Europäer nicht an einem Beitritt der Türkei zur Europäischen Union interessiert ist.

I have the impression that the majority of Europeans do not want Turkey to be part of the European Union.

Die Kultur fördern heißt nicht, einige Akteure der kulturellen Aktion zu fördern, sondern die Wurzeln der Europäer, ein Bildungswerk zu vollbringen, ein staatsbürgerliches Werk zu vollbringen, und das ist das Fundament unserer Programme.

Supporting culture does not mean merely supporting a few players in that area. What it means is supporting the legacy inherited by Europeans, educating, becoming involved with the people, and that is the basis of our programmes.
