Successful treatment of rickets and osteomalacia will require adequate supply and action of vitamin D and sufficient supply of calcium to allow normal bone mineralisation.

Voraussetzung für eine erfolgreiche Behandlung von Rachitis und Osteomalazie sind eine ausreichende Zufuhr und Wirkung von Vitamin D sowie eine ausreichende Zufuhr von Calcium, um die normale Knochenmineralisierung anzuregen.

In severe cases, deficiency results in secondary hyperparathyroidism, hypophosphataemia, proximal muscle weakness and osteomalacia, further increasing the risk of falls and fractures in osteoporotic individuals.
