Now that we have succeeded in creating positive framework conditions for developing and promoting fair trade, as Europeans, we are able to assume a very important role as a pacesetter in this sphere.

Gelingt es uns jetzt, positive Rahmenbedingungen für die Entwicklung und Förderung des fairen Handels zu schaffen, können wir als Europäer in diesem Bereich eine ganz wichtige Schrittmacherrolle übernehmen.

I should like to thank the rapporteur, Mr Sjöstedt – our ‘pacesetter’ – who, with expert knowledge and a great deal of energy, managed to maintain the momentum of the negotiations all the way to the Conciliation Committee.
