It includes the Mullets (Mugilidae), the Atheriniformes, the Beloniformes, the Cyprinodontiformes and some families of the paraphyletic Perciformes, including the Cichlids known from fishkeeping in Aquaria.

Das Taxon umfasst über 4800 Arten in 40 Familien, das sind 27 % der Barschverwandten und 16 % aller Fischarten aus der Klasse der Strahlenflosser (Euacanthomorphacea).
